Falconers

Falconry is not new. Falconry has influenced our regions for centuries. Even the knowledge and skill to train and hunt a falcon was regarded as the basic knowledge to life. Falconry is deeply rooted in our culture. The words 'gentleman', 'bride' and 'groom' are just a few references. Discover what falconry encompasses, find out why UNESCO too considered it important to recognise falconry as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The world of birds of prey has captured our imagination since time immemorial. Almost in every empire, in every culture, in every civilisation, birds of prey played a prominent role. From gods to images on blazons, from songs and poems to heraldry. Falconry is the art of building a unique bond, a partnership, with a wild bird of prey. Taking to the field together with the falcon, hunting together, fathoming nature together as seen through the eyes of a bird of prey. A form of hunting that has been practised for more than 3,000 years. But how does this partnership come about?
